New Ideas
Most of these jobs are printed digitally. Long run litho print has been around for many years and most new things are now a standard. Digital print allows more flexibility for short runs, allowing printed items to be competitive in smaller quantities for all clients.
New Disc PackagingThe Digital Printer, a print-trade publication, present annual award ceremonies in London for UK printers and realised the C-Sleeve fitted into two categories - innovative digital print and the use of recycled materials. Colourplan's unusual digital document press prints on most papers in the average commercial printshop, so it was a chance to highlight our unique disc-packaging.

C-Sleeve is a simple method of securing a disc into a wallet, mailer, brochure or book - without trays, spigots or foam. Colourplan has printed orders up to 500 copies on our digital press for music CD’s, as well as printing thousands for DVD product promotion. They can be mailed in conventional envelopes within the Royal Mail Letter rate, and we have individually shrink-wrapped showing the promotional content. There is an environmental advantage – it can be printed on recycled material and is then completely recycled and recyclable. The C-Sleeve pictured (top) was for PurpleLine to mail a DVD of a new product, inserted into a square envelope to part of their mailbase. PurpleLine inserted and mailed this production and it was very successful. |
A NEW Digital Landscape |
|
|
Digital Document printing is usually restricted to A3 size, making the largest page of a book A4 portrait. Colourplan's Digital Press can run a sheet 1000mm x 300mm, giving four A4 potrait pages in a row! The Holbrook School brochure is 210 x 840mm, concertina-folded to 210mm square. Most other printers would have to print this litho on a B1 press - lots more time and lots more money. Contact Colourplan for prices on printing short-run landscape documents. |

This promotional exercise personalised can labels, using the names of a seminar meeting for the Chamber of Commerce and presented to each member in the welcome hall. It demonstrated small scale personalization with a touch of humour. |
Raising the Roof |

A global roofing manufacturer tackled merchants in Ireland to establish product buyers. A complicated mailing program used loyalty vouchers, personalized with contact details and barcodes on perforated tickets, together with product catalogues and mailers. There were daily print-and-mailing, and the two currencies complicated the fulfillment to Northern Ireland and Eire. |
Government Report |

A proposal for a high level government review meeting needed a well presented printed report to maintain its prominence. Fold-out site plans and a heavy board cover, with a run of 50 copies was printed, and there was a further print-on-demand requirement for 6 copies a few days later. |
Dividing a Small Sum |
|

Ring binders often hold printed information produced to a high quality, but the dividers can be expensive due to the die-cutting and drilling after print. Digital presses can print larger than A4 on heavier card with full coverage and bleed, allowing hand-cut tabs for small quantities. Folders with pockets can also be hand finished using pre-printed pockets with two glue-tabs. |
